Housing Options Consultation - Building for our Borough

Why are we asking for your views?  

We have been working on a plan for the future of the Borough through a series of documents which will comprise the Local Development Framework (LDF) and which will, over time, replace the Waverley Borough Local Plan.

The most important document to be produced will be the Core Strategy. This central document will set out the overall planning strategy for Waverley up to 2026.

What are 'housing options'?

One of the key challenges for the Council will be how Waverley can accommodate the new housing that is required in the area. The South East Plan (2009) sets out the housing allocations across the region and Waverley is required to provide for at least 5,000 additional homes between 2006 and 2026.  

This is an important issue for us and we would like to know the views of residents, businesses, local organisations and others with an interest in Waverley on how best to accommodate these new homes. We have identified five possible options and would like to know which you prefer.  If you feel that there are other options, or a combination of options, which should be considered then please let us know.

This consultation builds on the earlier consultation on issues and options for the Core Strategy, which took place in February/March last year.  

What information is available on the consultation?

The following documents are available as part of the consultation:

• A non-technical summary document setting out the options and including the consultation questionnaire;
• A more comprehensive background document containing more detail and technical information concerning the housing options; and
• A glossary of relevant technical terms.

In addition, there are a number of supporting evidence documents available to view and download. 

• The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
• The Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA)
• A draft Settlement Hierarchy
• The Employment Land Review (ELR)

How can you respond?

There are four ways to respond to the consultation:

1. Using our online consultation portal to view the documents and fill in the questionnaire online.
2. View the documents and fill in the online questionnaire direct from this website.
3. Print out the non-technical summary document, with attached questionnaire, and either post it back to us, or hand it to us in person at our main office in Godalming, or our three locality offices in Farham, Haslemere and Cranleigh.
4. Pick up a hard copy of the non-technical summary document, with attached questionnaire, and either post it back to us, or hand to us in person at our main office in Godalming, or our three locality offices in Farham, Haslemere and Cranleigh. 

How long do you have to respond?

The consultation will run for six weeks from 27 January to 31 March 2010.
