farnham park

Farnham Park is a 320 acre (130 hectare) medieval deer park near to Farnham town centre. See a map of Farnham Park.

It has an impressive tree avenue over 1km long and is managed partly for its wildlife and partly for its amenity value.

Park facilities

Waverley's Countryside Section manages most of the site for its wildlife value, but the southern end of the park is managed as a recreation area and offers:

  • a large adventure playground
  • a toddlers play area
  • a cycleway
  • limited access for wheelchairs
  • cafe
  • toilets
  • golf course
  • cricket club
  • two football pitches, which are available to hire during the playing season

Where is Farnham Park?

The southern end of the Park lies about 300 metres north of Farnham Castle Street, an easy but hilly walk. Farnham is well served by buses and trains.

If you are driving, the main car park (SU 838475) is situated off Folly Hill (A 287) between Farnham and Upper Hale.

What does Farnham Park offer?

Farnham Park offers a wide selection of amenities including:

  • open grassland with parkland trees
  • woodland and various ponds and streams
  • formal avenue of trees including a number of important veteran (or ancient) trees.

Park management

Some of the open grassy areas are managed using conservation grazing by cattle, and, at the southern end, an area of chalk grassland is responding well to annual hay cuts.

The northern end consists of the more typical open landscape associated with deer parks, whilst much of the southern end is more formal. The southern end includes a large adventure playground and a toddlers' play area, which, together with two football pitches, are managed by the Parks and Landscape section. The football pitches are available for hire during the playing season, please contact:
