How is my Refuse and Recycling collected?
Waverley operates an alternate weekly refuse collection system with refuse collected one week and recycling the next.
Refuse is collected in wheeled bins and the recycling in individual boxes and baskets. Your containers must be presented at the boundary (curtilage) of your property, nearest the highway or where the dustcart stops, by 7am on the morning of your collection.
What recycling do we collect?
We collect white paper (newspaper, magazines, junk mail, catalogues etc), glass bottles and jars, aerosols and steel and aluminium cans, plastic bottles.
Paper is collected in a box with a lidded cover; plastic bottles and cans in a second box with a flexible net cover; and glass bottles and jars in a basket. See more about what goes in your recycling boxes.
Why don't you collect cardboard?
Unfortunately, it isn't possible to collect cardboard for recycling because there is insufficient capacity on the current kerbside collection vehicles. However, we hope to be able to collect cardboard in the future. Cardboard can be recycled by taking it to one of the Community Recycling Centres or to one of the recycling sites around the Borough.
How do I know which bin is to be collected?
Check your bin day at the top of this page! Recycling and rubbish will be collected on the same day of the week, on alternate weeks and will not change for Bank Holidays. For example, if your collection day is a Monday, you will have your refuse collected one Monday and your recycling collected the following Monday, even when there is a Bank Holiday. Christmas and New Year arrangements will be dealt with on a year-by-year basis.
What if I can't fit my recycling in the box provided?
Occasional extra recycling will be taken from the side of recycling containers provided it is bagged. If you have extra recycling on a regular basis we can provide additional boxes.
