If you are considering applying for planning permission on property is inside a Conservation Area there are special rules and guidance which you need to be aware of.
What is a conservation area?
Conservation areas are areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. They are designated by the Borough Council, or by the County Council. Plans showing properties included within a conservation area can be seen at the Borough Planning and Development Department.
Greater control is exercised over development within conservation areas. Works to trees within conservation areas, for example, require notification to the Council six weeks in advance of being carried out. In particular, there are additional controls over the demolition of structures within conservation areas. Proposals for demolition may require an application to be made to the Council for conservation area consent.Page Updated: 10/09/2009 10:01
