What we do - Building Control service

We are responsible for the application and enforcement of the Building Regulations 2000. The main purpose of the Regulations is to ensure the health and safety of people in or about buildings. They are also concerned with energy conservation and with making buildings more convenient and accessible for people with disabilities.

We examine drawings of proposed building works and inspect works in progress.

We issue notices or approval or rejection for plans and provide you with completion certificates for for satisfactorily completed works.

If you are a developer and you do not comply with any verbal or written instructions from us, we can take legal action against you, under the provisions of the Building Act 1984.

Demolition and dangerous structures
The Building Control Service is also responsible for dealing with demolitions and dangerous structures (attending dangerous structures out of hours, as necessary) under the provisions of the Building Act 1984. See dangerous structures and demolition

The Service provides technical support to other Waverley services.
This work includes, checking the fairness of contractor's estimates for grant aided works and advising development control of breaches of planning permission.
