Planning for Waverley's Future

The Local Development Framework (LDF) is the name for the suite of documents that will shape and guide how development takes place in the towns, villages and countryside of Waverley.

The documents of the Local Development Framework and the Regional Spatial Strategy (South East Plan) will over time replace the existing Local Plan and Structure Plan.

Sitting at the heart of the Local Development Framework is the Core Strategy. The Core Strategy will set out a spatial vision for Waverley over the next 15 to 20 years. It aims to tackle the big issues that Waverley is likely to face over this time such as providing appropriate housing and employment opportunities in a sustainable manner.

Local Development Framework Update - July 2010

On the 6 July 2010, the new Government placed an order in Parliament to revoke Regional Spatial Strategies (RSS) with immediate effect.

This means that the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the South East, known as the South East Plan, will no longer form part of the statutory development plan.

In Waverley's case this means that currently the main local document used when deciding planning applications will be the saved policies in the Waverley Borough Local Plan 2002.

Although Regional Plans have been revoked, the Government has said that it is important for local councils to continue to bring forward their Local Development Framework (LDF) Core Strategy and other LDF documents.
