Residential Extensions Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)
Residential Extensions SPD
If you are thinking of extending your home, this Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) should help you to plan your extension. It identifies the key points to consider in order to achieve a design which will complement your house in terms of style, scale and materials. The advice in this document refers to situations where the principle of extension is acceptable
Originally produced as supplementary planning guidance in 2002, the Residential Extensions Design Guidelines (archived) has been used extensively by applicants, their architects, agents and planning officers to inform householder planning applications (for extensions and alterations to houses).
On 12 October 2010, Waverley Borough Council formally adopted the updated document as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). You can download the Residential Extensions Full Council Report.
The SPD is a material planning consideration and will be used in the determination of relevant planning applications. In addition architects, agents, developers, householders and others, interested in extending a dwelling should use the document to guide their development, whether or not it requires planning permission.
