Waverley Borough Council has been presented with two prestigious In Bloom awards for its parks in Godalming and Farnham.

The Phillips Memorial Park in Godalming was presented with a gold award and Gostrey Meadow in Farnham with a silver gilt award at the South and South East In Bloom Awards.

Judges viewed the parks over the summer and said the Phillips Memorial Park, which also won a Green Flag Award this year, was “both attractive and well-managed with very supportive volunteers” and was “clean, tidy and well managed throughout.” The judges also praised Gostrey Meadow for its play area, clear signage, the riverside areas and tree specimens and borders.

Councillor Kevin Deanus, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at Waverley Borough Council, said: “I’m so pleased that both of these parks received awards. The council’s officers, rangers and ground maintenance teams work hard to maintain them to such a high quality for the community to enjoy, with the help of our fantastic and dedicated local volunteers.

“Whatever the time of year it’s good to get outside and take a walk, so I’d encourage everyone to pay these parks a visit, take in the picturesque scenery and experience exactly what it is that makes these parks award winning.”
