Working in partnership
Waverley's Strategic Partnerships
The government recommends that councils should establish Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs). An LSP is a grouping of organisations and representatives of public, private, voluntary and community sectors, coming together to identify common objectives for their local community and to jointly oversee the delivery of improvement initiatives.
Waverley is a member of two of these partnerships - the Waverley Strategic Partnership (WaSP) and the Surrey Strategic Partnership (SSP).
Waverley's Strategic Partnership (WaSP)
WaSP brings together representatives from different organisations across Waverley, working in partnership to improve the quality of life for those who live and work in Waverley. A key role of this partnership is to support the delivery of the Sustainable Community Strategy agreed for the area. The draft Strategy for 2008-11 is available to download.
The Partnership includes:
- Surrey Primary Care Trust (NHS)
- Surrey County Council
- Surrey Police
- Surrey Fire and Rescue
- Surrey Community Action
- Waverley Business Forum
- Waverley Borough Council
- Representatives from town and parish councils
- Representatives for youth, older people and the faith sector
In September 2008 the Waverley Strategic Partnership was formed by merging the former Waverley Local Strategic Partnership and the Safer Waverley Partnership. You can view more information about the Safer Waverley Partnership.

Surrey Strategic Partnership and the Surrey Sustainable Community Strategy
Waverley Borough Council is also a member of the Surrey Strategic Partnership (SSP), bringing together partners and representatives from across Surrey to deliver the Surrey Sustainable Community Strategy 2008-11. This draft strategy can be viewed on the Surrey County Council website.
The SSP has also agreed a 'Local Area Agreement' (LAA)- a three year 'deal' between Central Government and the Surrey Strategic Partnership to improve services and the quality of life in the local area. It contains 28 indicators selected from the Government's National Indicator Set of targets, which reflect the priorities in Surrey.
For information about the Surrey Strategic Partnership, Surrey Community Strategy or the Local Area Agreement, you can visit the Surrey County Council website.
Waverley's Community Strategy
WaSP has created action plans with a local-Waverley focus to deliver the theme of the Surrey Sustainable Community Strategy. Each of the WaSP's three sub-groups has prepared a plan and these are available to download.
