Work is about to get underway to transform Badshot Lea Pond thanks to funding from the Tesco Bags of Help Initiative.

The supermarket scheme, which has seen Tesco team up with Groundwork to offer support to community projects in regions throughout the UK, provided Waverley with £8,000 towards improvement works at the pond. The council has also contributed £4,000 towards the renovation.

Contractors will be carrying out work on the 200 year-old pond and surrounding vegetation for around three weeks. They will be removing silt and vegetation from a third of the pond area, carrying out coppicing works to the bankside willows and removing scrubs from the pond edge to improve the water quality. A new woven pond edge will be also fitted.

For safety reasons there may be temporary restricted access to parts of the area during the works.
