Waverley Borough Council is a finalist for a prestigious building excellence award for its social housing development, Whitbourn Mews, at Badgers Close, Farncombe
The four new energy efficient homes are excellent examples of modern affordable housing design and the new tenants were delighted with the quality of their new homes when they moved in last summer.
South East Regional LABC Building Excellence Awards promote the best of local authority building control services across Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
Waverley’s building control surveyors worked closely with the contractor to ensure that the project was inspected at the correct stages to minimise expensive changes and fixes and to provide solutions to dealing with the varied ground conditions on the site.
The local community were consulted from the start to ensure that the development would fit in well with the area. People were positive about the overall development and some of their initial concerns about parking were addressed by providing two spaces within the boundaries of each property.
The homes provide high standards of efficiency, achieving Energy Efficiency Rating of B and Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 for energy and water conservation. They also meet Secured by Design principles and provide better security for the area compared to the former garage block and open space that they are built on.
