Volunteering is For Everyone

At the Museum of Farnham we have volunteers from a wide variety of different backgrounds with so many diverse skills that they can bring to the museum. The Museum of Farnham really is a great place to volunteer and people decide to volunteer with us for a variety of reasons. 

• To make friends and meet new people
• To learn about the historic town of Farnham
• To share knowledge of Farnham and its past
• To gain work experience and skills to apply for a wide range of jobs
• Some people are thinking of returning to work after a break and want experience of being in a workplace again 
• To put a free afternoon or morning towards helping out the museum and the community 

We are looking for people to help with:

Front of house duties: welcome visitors to the museum, assist with local history enquiries, learn to use the till and help visitors in the shop, take bookings for the Garden Gallery and answer the museum telephone.

Infant and Junior School Visits: help the Museum's Education Team deliver its very popular costumed interpretation sessions at the Museum and develop new programmes for schools. Perfect for those thinking of going into teaching, people with a theatrical flare or anyone good with children.

Gardening: help design and maintain the beautiful walled garden which is enjoyed by visitors of all ages.

We are looking for people who are:

• enthusiastic about helping others
• friendly and patient with good communication skills
• interested in history and local heritage, and willing to learn
• able to work well as part of a team under the direction of Museum staff
• can give three or more hours a month on a flexible basis

Training will be given to all volunteers so that they feel confident in their duties and can develop their skills in the most effective way. Unfortunately we are unable to pay expenses of any kind.
