Sport and leisure as part of our cultural strategy
Waverley's plans for sport and leisure
Sport and leisure is an important theme in our Cultural strategy for 2009 - 2013.
What are our key aims?
1. Refurbish our leisure centres
Finish agreed refurbishment at:
- Cranleigh Leisure Centre, by January 2010
- Farnham Sports Centre, by November 2010
2. Plan for a new leisure centre in Godalming
Gather requirements and make plans for building a new leisure centre in Godalming.
3. Improve access to our leisure centres
- Work with schools to ensure they have formal leases for community use of their sports halls.
- Include a teaching pool as a requirement for the new leisure centre in Godalming.
- Promote the facilities available at our leisure centres to increase visitor numbers.
- Increase members of the IN2 leisure discount scheme to 900 by 2012. Find out more about our IN2 leisure discount scheme.
4. Maintain UK Quality Accreditation
We aim to maintain our UK Quality Accreditation (QUEST) for all our leisure centres and for our sports development service to gain QUEST by March 2010.
5. Organise and manage annual leisure events
We aim to organise and manage annual leisure events which include:
- The Surrey Youth Games
- The Mayor's Youth Challenge
- Skate festivals
- Waverley and Ash School Games
6. Support sports clubs
We will work with key sports clubs to support their plans for improvement.
