Active Waverley - Community Sports Network
About Active Waverley
Active Waverley is Waverley's community sports network. It aims to promote increased participation and opportunities for sports and physical activity throughout the Borough by networking and getting the different towns and villages to work together.
For example, Sport Godalming has launched an initiative called 'Go for Gold' which raises money and then gives bursaries to talented athletes. This worthwhile scheme has just been extended to Haslemere under the title "Create a Star".
Active Waverley will help promote and make the most of the opportunities presented by the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Who is part of Active Waverley network?
- Nick Chilton - Chairman
- Chairmen from the local sports councils in Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere
- Primary Care Trust (PCT) representative who works on health promotion
- Active Surrey
- Surrey School Games Organiser (SW Surrey)
- senior representative from DC Leisure who manage the leisure centres in Waverley
- Sports and leisure officers from Waverley Borough Council
Active Waverley aims to expand the group membership to at least include representatives for safer communities and disabled sport.
