Better recycling and refuse service for 2012
Questions and answers about the new service
Do I have to pay for the new bin or food waste caddies?
No, Waverley is providing the new containers free of charge.
When will I get my new bin?
You should now have received you new blue recycling bin and food waste caddies. If you haven't received your bin and caddies by 5 April please contact us.
What size is the new blue recycling bin?
Your new blue bin is the same size as your black household rubbish bin. If you believe that the bin is the wrong size for your property we ask you to trial it before requesting a change. It is anticipated that the additional materials we collect will mean that you generate much larger amounts of recycling than you have previously.
The dimensions for the bins and caddies are as follows (please note you will receive either the 240 or 140 litre bin, not both):
- 240 litre bin (large) - 1085mm high, 580mm wide, 730mm deep
- 140 litre bin (smaller) - 1085mm high, 483mm wide, 553mm deep
- Green food waste caddy - 630mm high with the handle up, 400mm wide, 345mm deep
- Silver food caddy - 360mm with the handle up, 271mm wide, 229mm deep
My recycling wheelie bin lid sticks up, what should I do?
The bins have been stored for the last couple of weeks with the lids open. The lid will settle down over the next couple of weeks.
What day will my new collection day be?
You should now have received a letter to confirm your new collection day. You can also check your new bin collection day online.
Why will I have to put all my recyclable materials in one bin instead of separating them?
We are moving to this type of system to make it easier for you to recycle. This system significantly increases the amount of material recycled and, therefore, reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill.
What can I recycle?
From the single blue bin, we will be collecting cardboard, paper, glass, plastics (including bottles, margarine tubs and yoghurt pots, but not films or expanded polystyrene), cans and tins, aerosols, food and drink cartons (TetraPaks) and foil.
I do not want to take part in the new recycling service, so I do not want the wheeled bin, is that ok?
We have delivered new wheelie bins and where applicable food waste caddies, to every household. Whilst taking part in the new collection service is not compulsory, doing so will increase the amount of material recycled and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. If you would really rather not use the recycling service, we ask you to keep hold of your new bin for any future residents to use.
Will it be possible to recycle plastic bags?
No, it will not be possible to recycle plastic bags, polystyrene or cling film.
What if my bin or caddies have been damaged on delivery?
Contact us using our online form and we will sort out replacements for you.
All my neighbours have the new blue bin and caddies. Why haven't I?
Contact us using our online form and we will organise for the containers to be delivered to you.
How do I change my rubbish bin for a smaller size?
Our contractor, Veolia, will be able to do this for you but please note that there will be a charge for the replacement bin. You can call them on 01252 724157.
If you have any other questions, please ask using our online form and we will get back to you.
