Meadow saxifrage - Churchyard of Saint Peter and Paul, Godalming

Waverley Borough Council is responsible for the management of nine closed cemeteries across the borough.  A number of these are now important refuges for wildlife, as they still contain unusual flower species which were once previously common in local meadows in the past.  Both Elstead (Thursley Road) Cemetery and the Churchyard of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Godalming, have areas of grass left unmown across the summer  to allow rare wildflowers, like meadow saxifrage, to flower and set seed. This ongoing work is being carried out in collaboration with the Surrey Botanical Society, Surrey Wildlife Trust and local people.

See examples of site posters for the Churchyard of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Godalming and Elstead Thursley Road Cemetery.
