Lodger's and subtenants
As a council tenant, you can usually take in a lodger or sublet a room if you have the space in your home.
What to do if you want to take in a lodger
If you want to take in a lodger, you need to:
- Tell your Tenancy and Estates Officer: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01483 523163.
- Tell the Housing Benefit team as it may affect the amount of benefit you are entitled to.
- Make sure you know about your rights and those of lodgers. You can find out more about Lodgers on the Shelter website.
What to do if you want to sublet part of your home
If you want to sublet part of your home, you need to have Waverley's written consent. Please contact the Tenancy and Estates Team: tenancyandestates@Waverley.gov.uk or call 01483 523163.
