Decent homes
Progamme of improvements
What is the Decent Homes Standard?
Everyone is entitled to live in a home which has modern facilities and is in a good state of repair.
That's what the Government has laid down by law and providers of council homes are working towards ensuring that our council homes meet the Decent Homes Standard.
A home that meets the decent homes standard can be defined as one that:
- meets the current statutory minimum standard for housing
- is in a reasonable state of repair
- has reasonably modern facilities and services
- provides a reasonable degree of thermal comfort
Full details can be found on the Communities and Local Government website.
Our three year programme of works
We have successfully bid for £8 million of additional government funding to help us to carry out the Decent Homes work that is outstanding, meaning that as of April this year we have started a range of improvement works. The programme will run for three years and we will begin contacting people to let them know if and when we will be carrying out planned works on their homes. We will give you plenty of notice before carrying out work.
You do not need to contact us. If your property requires improvements under the Decent Homes Standard of work we will be in contact with you over the coming 36 months.
What does the work involve?
We will be doing work including kitchen and bathroom replacements, window and door replacements and heating and electrical upgrades in homes where this is required. Mears, our new repairs and maintenance contractor will be carrying out the majority of the work.
