Our building control service

We will guide you and/or your builder/architect through the current legal requirements to ensure your building is safe, accessible and efficient, and your investment is protected.

Delivering excellent customer service is a core value of Waverley Borough Council and our Building Control Service is committed to ensuring we offer a client focused, flexible, consistent and value for money service.

Our capabilities range from domestics extensions (including conversions) through to commercial buildings and projects.  As well as being able to offer local knowledge and experience, we are part of the Local Authority Building Control (LABC), able to offer resources for larger complex projects and builds.  We are able to access resources to ensure other areas of your build such as warranties, acoustics, environmental and sustainability requirements can also be met with the same high standards we deliver.

Building Regulations and Approved Documents

Building regulations protect the health, safety and welfare of people in and about buildings. The regulations generally apply to new, extended and altered buildings whether they are residential, commercial or industrial. Building Control regulates the design and construction of buildings, making sure they meet the minimum standards set out in building regulations.

You are responsible for complying to building regulations if you are carrying out the building work or the owner of the building (if you aren't the same person). Before you make a building regulation application check if you need building regulation approval as there are a wide range of developments that don't require permission.

Check to see if you need Building Regulation approval.

Approved Documents provide guidance on how you can comply with the building regulations.  Each document contains general guidance on the performance expected of materials and building work and practical examples and solutions on how to achieve compliance for some of the more common building situations.  You can find the most recent versions of the Approved Documents that support the fourteen technical "Parts" of the Building Regulations' on the Planning Portal Approved Documents page.
