Apply for a postal address for newly built properties

You need to apply for a new address when:

  • you have planning consent or prior approval, and
  • once the development is nearing completion.

When you are planning to start building

If planning consent has been given and you are planning to start building, then contact us and quote your planning application reference number.

You will need to provide:

  • two site location plans showing the position of the site in relation to two named streets
  • two site layout plans (1:500) that clearly indicates plot number(s) and shows the main point for deliveries.  

When allocating postal addresses we will take into account Government guidance and our Street Naming and Property Numbering Policy.

When there is more than one property

Where more than one new property is numbered, a schedule of property numbering will be returned to the developer. It is the developer's responsibility to inform the purchaser of the allocated address. Details should be kept with the title deeds.

Timescales

This process may take up to eight weeks. The Royal Mail will not issue a post code until the address has been ratified. This may delay service provision and onward sale of the development so an early start to this process is recommended.

Once the properties are finished

Please contact us again to ensure that the addresses go live.
