Asbestos in Council owned homes

Important safety information for tenants

Some of our homes were built when asbestos was still in common use. Asbestos can be found in:

  • artex ceilings
  • floor tiles
  • fire surrounds
  • fire protection in airing cupboard doors

There is no risk from asbestos if it is in a good condition and left alone.

It can become dangerous if it is disturbed when you decorate or carry out repairs or improvements. For your safety, please ask us for advice before carrying out any work that will disturb material that may contain asbestos.
