The Act establishes a right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities and imposes obligations on public authorities to disclose information, subject to a range of exemptions.
Under the Act, every public authority is required to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme, which provides the public with a structured listing of any information released. Local Authorities commit to make it available to all.
