Q: Why do overpayments happen?

Answer:

Mainly because we are told late of a change in circumstances that reduces the amount of benefit we can pay. Persons in receipt of benefit are legally responsible for reporting all changes in circumstance in writing at the time the change occurs. This will prevent overpayments happening.
