  • Pete Jackman - Icelandic Landscapes

    • Saturday, 21 April 2018 - Saturday, 2 June 2018
    • Location: New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Surrey
    • Cost: N/A

The New Ashgate Gallery is presenting new work by Pete Jackman. Pete’s drawings and paintings are interpretations of landscapes and objects within the landscape in a semi abstract form.

Peter_Jackman_B__rfell_Acrylic_Graphite_The Icelandic landscape has a pristine, raw and dynamic quality, looking brand new and ancient at the same time.

It is physically and visually challenging, informing the artist's mark making and colour palette. The work represents his impressions and reactions to particular places and forms within the landscape. It is developed from sketches, photographs and memories, which through stages of drawings and over drawing, using layers or various media, tend to become more abstract as the work evolves.

As each piece progresses the work becomes its own reference, where the original source image may just be represented in the form of a particular shape, texture or colour. The drawings are created with layers of graphite, soft pastels, and chalks, these layers may then be cut through to expose earlier marks, with further overdrawing and colouring to create a more complex surface. A similar process of layering is also involved in the paintings, but due to the medium, the emphasis is on overpainting and glazes.

  • Barbara Beaumont – New Paintings

    • Saturday, 21 April 2018 - Saturday, 2 June 2018
    • Location: New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Surrey
    • Cost: N/A

We are excited to be exhibiting new paintings by Barbara Beaumont at the New Ashgate Gallery. Barbara has exhibited widely, including the Royal Academy and the Mall Galleries, London.

Paradise_Paved_II__Barbara_BeaumontThis collection of work is Barbara’s response to the loss of green and wild spaces. As more open land is covered by buildings, it leaves less countryside to keep us in touch with the natural world. We forget what was there before - ghosts of trees. Just as important as the idea, is the arrangement of shapes and colours. Every picture presents its own problems to be solved and it is this which is endlessly varied and interesting, and what keeps Barbara painting.

Barbara is inspired by ordinary, everyday occurrences such as a news item or a glimpse of something from a train or a car. She finds that the memory will go through many alterations and adjustments before it feels right and expresses the feeling of the initial idea.
