  • Volunteering at Frensham Common

    Volunteer sessions take place every Wednesday from 10:00 – 15:30, apart from the second Wednesday of the month where the session will instead be at Mare Hill Common.

    Unless otherwise specified, meet at 10:00 at the Frensham Pond visitor centre, Bacon Lane, Churt, GU10 2QB. Sessions led by Darren.      

    Wednesday 17 October

    Barrows vegetation clearance: Today we will use the trusted combination of loppers and bowsaws to clear the barrows of vegetation. These scheduled ancient monuments are at risk of erosion and the clearance of scrub is a requirement of our Higher Level Stewardship agreement with Natural England.

    Meet at Frensham Pond Visitor Centre, Bacon Lane, Churt GU10 2QB.

    Wednesday 24 October

    Heather mowing: Today we will be using the BCS mower to cut strips into the heather on The Flashes. The arising’s will be burnt on site, providing some warmth for our tea break!

    Scrub clearance: Today, we will be clearing young pine and birch in an effort to retain the heathland habitat so important for wildlife. Working to join up two areas of heath, we will be clearing a belt of scrub to the north of the visitor centre.

    Rhododendron clearance: Contractors have been clearing large areas of rhododendron from around Axe pond; today we will be blending the remaining tunnels into the surrounding landscape.

  • Remembering the First World War

    Marking the centenary of the end of the First World War, this exhibition remembers those who fought and explores the impact on the lives of residents of Godalming, Farncombe and surrounding villages.

    Discover the stories which lie behind the war memorials we pass every day and the characters and events which shaped the local experience of 'The Great War'.

    Godalming Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.

    Exhibition: Behind Closed Doors: 300 years of Willmer House

    Willmer_House_by_Thomas_HunterA hop grower’s residence, a school for young ladies, a dentist’s surgery; Since Willmer House was built in 1718 it has been many different things to different people. In this special exhibition celebrating 300 years of Willmer House, visitors will be able to learn more about the history of the building through material specially selected by pupils from Potters Gate School.
