Composting
About composting
Over 25 per cent of the average wheeled bin contains kitchen scraps and garden waste. This could be turned into a valuable resource - compost!
Home composting is the most environmentally friendly way to deal with your biodegradable waste. You also get free compost to use on your garden the following year.
Where can I buy a composter?
- Surrey residents are able to purchase subsidised composters and wormeries. For more information, please visit the Surrey composting website.
How do I dispose of food waste?
We're offering Green Cone and Green Johanna food digesters at a reduced price. Please visit our food digester page for more information.
For other tips on reducing the amount of food waste you produce, please visit our food waste information pages.
See home composting in action
You can see home composting in action at the Sayers Croft field centre in Ewhurst. It shows how organic kitchen and garden waste breaks down into a valuable product, which can be used as an alternative to peat or chemical fertilisers.
