Drawings of proposed building works are examined and works in progress are inspected. Compliance with the Regulations is normally achieved through the issuing of notices of approval or rejection (for plans) and by completion certificates (for satisfactorily completed works).
The failure of 'developers' to comply with any verbal or written instructions can result in legal action being taken under the provisions of the Building Act 1984.
Demolition and dangerous structures
The Building Control Service is also responsible for dealing with demolitions and dangerous structures (attending dangerous structures out of hours, as necessary) under the provisions of the Building Act 1984. See dangerous structures and demolition
The Service provides technical support to other Waverley services.
This work includes, checking the fairness of contractor's estimates for grant aided works and advising development control of breaches of planning permission.
