This week has been somewhat less frenetic for Mayoral engagements but has nevertheless been extremely busy. Planning for the Civic Service on 22nd June and the Volunteers Garden Party on the 9th July are in full swing and I have spent much time in making contacts and setting up future meetings with key people who will be helping plan and run my 2 major Charity events, the "Waverley Waterwalk" on 5th October and the Farnham Castle Black-Tie Charity Dinner on 7th March 2009. Although I had realised it would take a lot of effort to organise these events, I was unaware just how early one must start planning. I can only be thankful that my chosen charities have much experience in these areas and have provided much useful advice.
On Friday the new Town Mayors, their consorts and Town Clerks, and I had a luncheon meeting in the Mayor's Parlour. I believe such meetings to be essential if effective working relationships between the Mayors and their staffs are to be maintained. Mary Orton, the Chief Executive popped in, and we all had a friendly and productive exchange of ideas, which bodes well for a coherent approach by the new "Waverley Chain Gang" over the next year.
On Saturday I was entertained by the 5th Battalion, The Queen's Royal Regiment Old Members Association at their annual reunion dinner at the Farnham TA centre. It was a glittering occasion and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, even though my RAF career ill prepared me for such a surfeit of army jargon!
If you would like to know more about any of these events please look at the Waverley Website at www.waverley.gov.uk where there are links to most of the organisations mentioned, or contact me by email at mayorofwaverley@waverley.gov.uk.
